New York Event Firm Shows Pride With Floral Flag

Employees at Matthew David Events have created an American flag out of hundreds of silk daffodils, geraniums, roses and hydrangeas "to display our love for the people of New York," said company owner Matthew David. Having already donated supplies, food and blood to Sept. 11 relief efforts, staff members worked for almost 130 hours to construct the 5-by-9-foot flag, which currently hangs outside the design firm’s storefront in New York’s Chelsea neighborhood.
"The flag began as a project for ourselves," David explained. "The idea was to help build our own spirits in a way that we could share with our neighbors." Response to the display was so positive, that he is now offering the flag free of charge to clients for use at their events. "I think we are living in uncertain times and any image of the American flag helps us all feel like part of something greater than ourselves," David said. "We intend to lend this symbol to our neighbors and our clients for as long as it helps them feel more comfortable." For more information, contact Matthew David Events, 246 W. 18th St., Ground Floor, New York, NY 10011; 212/627-2086; www.matthewdavidevents.com.
